JackiGrace

Pamela Washburn-Calloway founded JackiGrace around a conviction that the yoga and activewear industry had gotten the fabric story completely wrong. Every major yoga brand was building its performance wear from polyester, nylon, and synthetic blends loaded with BPA and PFAS — forever chemicals that sit against the skin during the exact moments people are trying to connect with their body and their breath. JackiGrace was built to offer something different: organic cotton yoga sets, garment-dyed in Los Angeles, made without a single synthetic fiber.

We manufacture the full JackiGrace line — yoga sets, leggings, sports bras, and separates — in our Los Angeles facility. Organic cotton and spandex only. Garment-dyed for that soft, lived-in texture. Made without polyester, BPA, or PFAS.

JackiGrace launched and the market answered immediately. Within 30 days of going live, the collection was selling — proof that the yoga and wellness community had been waiting for exactly this. Not another polyester performance set. Not another synthetic fabric with a sustainability label slapped on it. Something that actually felt different from the first wear.

And it does feel different. Anyone who has worn a 100% cotton legging knows the difference the moment they put it on — the weight of a natural fiber against the skin, the way it breathes rather than trapping heat, the soft texture that gets better with every wash rather than pilling and degrading like synthetic fabrics do. Polyester leggings are engineered for performance data. Cotton leggings are engineered for how they actually feel. JackiGrace bet on feel — and the market agreed within 30 days.

The Brand — Redefining Yoga Wear With Natural Cotton

The name JackiGrace is a tribute to the two most important women in Pamela's life — her daughter Jacqleen and her mother Grace Washburn. It is not a marketing story. It is a deeply personal one. The brand reflects that same intentionality in everything it makes — natural materials, clean supply chain, garments that feel as good as the practice they are built for.

The conventional activewear industry runs on synthetic fabrics because they are cheap, stretchy, and moisture-wicking in ways that natural fibers traditionally were not. What the industry does not advertise is that polyester and nylon activewear often contains BPA and PFAS — chemicals that absorb through the skin during exercise when pores are open and body temperature is elevated. JackiGrace rejects this entirely. The fabric is organic cotton with a minimal spandex content for stretch — nothing else. No polyester. No nylon. No forever chemicals.

"We never use polyester or synthetics. JackiGrace is BPA and PFAS free — no forever chemicals."
— Pamela Washburn-Calloway, Founder, JackiGrace

The 90% organic cotton / 10% spandex construction is one of the most technically demanding fabric programs we run. Cotton-spandex blends behave differently in garment dyeing than pure cotton — the spandex content affects dye uptake, shrinkage behavior, and the tension of the finished garment. Engineering a consistent garment-dyed result across a cotton-spandex blend requires precise dye house calibration and pattern engineering that accounts for the differential stretch recovery between the two fiber types. This is not a program most Los Angeles manufacturers can execute consistently. We have dialed it in for JackiGrace across every colorway and every style in the collection.

Why Organic Cotton Activewear Is a Different Category

The activewear market is dominated by synthetic fabrics — polyester, nylon, spandex — because they are engineered for moisture management and stretch performance. The case against them is growing as awareness of PFAS and BPA contamination in synthetic textiles increases. Studies have found measurable levels of these chemicals in common activewear brands, raising questions about absorption through the skin during high-intensity exercise.

Organic cotton activewear solves this by returning to a natural fiber — one that breathes, absorbs moisture differently, and does not carry synthetic chemical loads. The trade-off is that pure cotton has limited natural stretch, which is why JackiGrace uses a minimal spandex content — enough to provide four-way stretch for yoga and movement, not enough to compromise the natural fiber story.

The garment-dye treatment adds the third dimension. Because the garment is dyed after construction, the color settles into every fiber, seam, and surface simultaneously — producing the soft, slightly weathered, lived-in aesthetic that synthetic activewear cannot replicate. A garment-dyed organic cotton yoga set feels fundamentally different from a polyester performance set from the first wear.

This is why JackiGrace sits in a distinct market position — not competing with Lululemon or Athleta on synthetic performance metrics, but offering something those brands cannot: a yoga and activewear line built entirely from natural, organic fibers, garment-dyed in Los Angeles, with a clean supply chain you can actually verify. For the yoga and wellness community that cares about what touches their skin during practice, this is the product.

Manufacturing Organic Cotton Activewear in Los Angeles

Producing activewear in Los Angeles in 100% domestic supply chain is a meaningful commitment for a brand to make. Most activewear — even brands that position themselves as sustainable — manufactures overseas where labor costs are lower and synthetic fabric programs are more established. JackiGrace chose Los Angeles specifically because the Made in USA story is inseparable from the brand's values.

Our role is to deliver the technical execution that makes that story true — organic cotton fabric programs, garment dye house management, pattern engineering for stretch fabrics, and production quality control on every run. Pamela brings the vision and the values. We bring the Los Angeles manufacturing infrastructure to deliver it consistently.

FAQ — Organic Cotton Yoga Wear and Activewear Manufacturing in Los Angeles

Can you manufacture yoga wear and activewear in Los Angeles without synthetic fabrics?

Yes — JackiGrace is the proof. We produce yoga sets, leggings, and sports bras in a 90% organic cotton / 10% spandex blend — no polyester, no nylon, no PFAS or BPA. The spandex content provides four-way stretch for active movement while the organic cotton base keeps the garment natural, breathable, and free of synthetic chemical loads. Production is entirely in Los Angeles, SB62 compliant.

What is the difference between cotton activewear and synthetic activewear in manufacturing?

Synthetic activewear — polyester, nylon, spandex blends — is engineered for moisture-wicking and high-stretch performance, and it is significantly easier to manufacture consistently because synthetic fabrics have predictable, stable properties. Cotton activewear requires more technical precision — particularly in garment dyeing, where cotton-spandex blends absorb dye differently than pure cotton and require careful calibration to achieve consistent color across a production run. The result is a more technically demanding product that justifies premium pricing and a stronger brand story.

Can you garment-dye cotton-spandex blend fabrics?

Yes — but it requires specific dye house expertise. Cotton-spandex blends absorb reactive dye differently than pure cotton — the spandex content affects dye uptake rates and the tension of the finished garment. At Essentials Made we have calibrated our garment-dye process specifically for cotton-spandex construction, producing consistent color depth and soft hand feel across every colorway. Pigment dye is also available for an even more muted, vintage aesthetic at an additional cost per piece.

What is the minimum order for a yoga wear or activewear collection in Los Angeles?

Our Capsule Run starts at 50 pieces per style when two or more styles share the same fabric and dye lot — from approximately $3,500 per style. A matching yoga set (top and legging) Capsule Run starts at approximately $6,950 total. Pattern development is a separate paid process — starting from $600 for a sports bra or crop top and $900 for leggings or full sets. All production requires a 50% deposit to begin.

Why manufacture yoga wear in Los Angeles instead of overseas?

Three reasons that matter specifically for the yoga and wellness market. First — supply chain transparency. Your customers in this space care about where and how their clothes are made. A Los Angeles manufacturer with SB62 compliance gives you a supply chain story you can stand behind completely. Second — quality control. Garment-dyed cotton-spandex activewear requires precise dye house management that is easier to monitor and correct in a local facility than across an ocean. Third — speed. Los Angeles production runs on 6 to 7 week timelines. Overseas production for a comparable product typically runs 4 to 6 months.

Can you produce BPA-free and PFAS-free activewear in Los Angeles?

Yes. When your activewear is made from organic cotton and minimal spandex — without polyester, nylon, or synthetic coatings — it is inherently free of BPA and PFAS. These chemicals enter activewear through synthetic fiber production and chemical performance treatments applied to polyester and nylon fabrics. An organic cotton construction with reactive garment dyeing contains none of these. This is one of the core brand stories JackiGrace is built on and one we can deliver consistently.

Building a Yoga or Activewear Brand in Los Angeles?

JackiGrace proves that the yoga and activewear market has room for a natural fiber alternative to synthetic performance wear — and that it can be manufactured in Los Angeles to a standard the wellness community respects.
