Garment-Dyed Sets Manufacturer (Hoodie + Sweatpants) — Los Angeles & USA
December 20 2025 – Ivan Rosario
The matching set is the anchor product of the independent brand era. A hoodie and sweatpants in the same garment-dyed color — same fabric, same dye lot, same exact tone — is the collection launch that photographs cleanly, sells cohesively, and builds a brand identity that customers come back to.
Essentials Made was built around the matching set. Our Capsule Run — the production tier that makes independent brand launches viable at 50 pieces per style — exists specifically because of the set structure. Two styles sharing the same fabric and dye lot at the Capsule Run minimum. That is the entry point. That is the hero product. And this is how we build it in Los Angeles.
Why the Matching Set Became the Defining Product of Independent Brand Launches
The matching set is not a trend. It is a structural advantage — and the brands that figured this out early are still winning because of it.
A matching set solves three problems simultaneously that individual pieces cannot solve alone.
The photography problem
A single hoodie photographed on a model is a hoodie. A matching hoodie and sweatpants photographed on a model is a collection. The visual cohesion of a set — two pieces in the same garment-dyed color, same fabric, same tonal variation — creates content that reads as a brand at a glance. It photographs at a standard that individual pieces require significantly more styling to achieve.
The revenue problem
A customer who buys a hoodie spends $180. A customer who buys a matching set spends $300 to $380. The average order value of a matching set launch is roughly double that of a single-piece drop — and the production investment is structured to reflect that. The Capsule Run produces 50 hoodies and 50 sweatpants for approximately $7,000 total. At $300 per set, 25 sets sold funds the entire production run. The math works in a way that single-piece launches often do not.
The color consistency problem
Two styles can only be a true matching set if they share the same fabric and dye lot. A hoodie and sweatpants ordered separately — even from the same manufacturer, even targeting the same Pantone color — will never match exactly. Dye baths are not identical between runs. Fabric lots vary subtly in construction and absorption. The only way to guarantee exact color consistency across both pieces is to develop and produce them together, entering the same dye bath at the same time. That is exactly what our Capsule Run is designed to do.
"The matching set is not two products. It is one collection — built as one program, dyed as one batch, delivered as one statement."

The Four Matching Set Combinations We Build in Los Angeles
We build matching sets around our four core silhouettes — any two styles sharing the same fabric and dye lot qualify as a Capsule Run set. Here are the most common combinations.
Hoodie + Sweatpants
360GSM Heavyweight Fleece
The most popular combination. Drop shoulder hoodie with kangaroo pocket and drawcord hood paired with relaxed sweatpants. Both in the same 360GSM fleece and dye lot — exact color match guaranteed.
Crewneck + Sweatpants
360GSM Heavyweight Fleece
The cleaner alternative to the hoodie set. Drop shoulder crewneck with rib collar paired with matching sweatpants. Photographs more minimally — strong choice for brands building a more refined aesthetic.
Hoodie + Crewneck + Sweatpants
360GSM Heavyweight Fleece · Three Styles
Three styles sharing the same fleece and dye lot — hoodie, crewneck, and sweatpants in the same color. Requires 50 pieces per style minimum. The full collection launch for brands ready to offer multiple silhouettes from day one.
Tee + Sweatpants
Jersey + Fleece · Mixed Fabric
A boxy oversized tee paired with matching sweatpants. Different fabric programs — high-density jersey tee and 360GSM fleece pants — dyed to the same Pantone TCX target. Color match is very close but not identical due to different fabric absorption. Best as a complementary piece to a fleece set.
Why the tee and sweatpants set requires a separate note
A boxy tee and sweatpants can be dyed to the same Pantone TCX target — but because they are different fabric constructions (jersey vs fleece), they absorb dye at slightly different rates. The color will be very close but not identical. This is the honest difference between a matching set built on the same fabric (hoodie + sweatpants, or crewneck + sweatpants) and a complementary set built on different fabrics (tee + sweatpants). We always brief clients on this distinction before development so expectations are set correctly from the start.

Development pricing for a matching set
Pattern development and garment-dyed samples for both styles are a separate paid process before production. Development costs are per style — $900 for a hoodie or sweatpants, $800 for a crewneck. A hoodie and sweatpants set requires approximately $1,800 in development before production begins. This covers expert pattern drafting with shrinkage engineering for both styles, fabric swatches, and one garment-dyed sample per style for your approval. Both samples are developed and dyed simultaneously so you can see the set together at approval.
How We Guarantee Color Consistency Across Both Pieces
Color consistency across a matching set is not automatic. It requires deliberate production planning — and it is the reason sets must be developed and produced together rather than as separate orders.
Here is the sequence that produces a true matching set:
- Same fabric program — both styles are cut from the same fabric lot. Same yarn, same knit construction, same GSM, same PFD preparation. Different fabric lots absorb dye at slightly different rates even when they appear identical.
- Same dye bath — both styles enter the dye bath together at the same time, in the same color, at the same temperature. Color penetrates both pieces simultaneously. The result is identical — not approximate.
- Same finishing sequence — enzyme wash and silicone wash are applied to both styles in the same sequence and duration. Hand feel and color depth are consistent across the set.
- Same Pantone TCX target — color is matched to your Pantone TCX specification before the production run begins. If the dye bath needs adjustment to hit the target, both styles are adjusted together.

The Matching Set and the Pre-Sale Model — Why They Work Together
The matching set is the most photographable product in an independent brand's lineup. And the most photographable product is the strongest pre-sale asset.
When your garment-dyed samples arrive — hoodie and sweatpants in the same color, same exact tone — you have content that tells a brand story without any additional styling effort. One model in a matching set communicates the collection instantly. That content drives pre-orders. Those pre-orders fund the production deposit. You sell the set before we manufacture it.
This is why the Capsule Run and the Pre-Sale Program are designed to work together. The matching set structure makes the pre-sale launch visually compelling. The pre-sale model makes the production investment accessible. Together they create the most risk-efficient path to a first collection launch for an independent brand.

FAQ — Garment-Dyed Matching Sets in Los Angeles
What is the minimum order for a garment-dyed matching set?
Our Capsule Run starts at 50 pieces per style when two or more styles share the same fabric and dye lot. A hoodie and sweatpants matching set — 50 of each — starts at approximately $7,000 total for both styles. Pattern development for both styles is separate — approximately $1,800 total for a hoodie and sweatpants — and is paid before production begins. All production requires a 50% deposit to start manufacturing.
How do you guarantee the hoodie and sweatpants match exactly?
By producing both styles as one program — same fabric lot, same dye bath, same finishing sequence, same Pantone TCX target. Both styles enter the dye house together and are processed simultaneously. This is the only method that guarantees exact color consistency across both pieces. Ordering styles separately — even targeting the same color — will not produce an exact match because dye baths are never identical between separate runs.
Can I add a third style to the matching set?
Yes. A three-style set — hoodie, crewneck, and sweatpants, or any other combination — is structured the same way. All three styles share the same fabric and dye lot. Each style requires a minimum of 50 pieces on a Capsule Run. Development is priced per style. Contact us to discuss your specific collection structure and we will guide you through the production planning.
Can a tee match perfectly with a fleece sweatpant?
Not exactly — and we are always honest about this. A boxy tee (high-density jersey) and sweatpants (360GSM fleece) are different fabric constructions that absorb dye at slightly different rates. We can target the same Pantone TCX on both and get very close — but exact color consistency across different fabric constructions is not achievable. For an exact matching set, both pieces must share the same fabric. The tee works best as a complementary piece to a fleece set rather than as the primary matching style.
How long does it take to manufacture a matching set?
Pattern development and garment-dyed samples for both styles take approximately 2 weeks after the development deposit — both styles developed simultaneously. Cut and sew production takes 4 to 5 weeks after sample approval and production deposit. Total timeline from project start to delivery is typically 6 to 7 weeks. All production happens in our Los Angeles network.
Can I launch my matching set as a pre-sale before production begins?
Yes — and this is how most of our Capsule Run clients launch. Once your garment-dyed samples are approved, you have a real matching set to photograph and sell. Launch your pre-sale, collect orders from your audience, and use that revenue to fund the 50% production deposit. You only manufacture what is already sold. Learn more about our Pre-Sale Program →
Do you work with brands outside Los Angeles?
Yes. While all production happens in our Los Angeles network, we work with independent brands across the USA — New York, Miami, Texas, Seattle, and beyond. Sample development and approvals happen remotely. Finished sets ship directly to you. The Made in LA story travels with the product regardless of where your brand is based.
